  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: ½ cup grated Gruyère cheese, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and add sliced onions with a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Set aside to cool.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ground sausage with cooled caramelized onions. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper. If desired, mix in cheese and mustard.
  3. Preheat the oven: Preheat it to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Assemble the rolls: Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface; cut into 4×6 inch rectangles. Place filling on each rectangle and fold over; seal edges with a fork. Brush tops with beaten egg.
