  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until crumbly.
  3. In another bowl, mix the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in chopped apples.
  4. Drop batter by 1/4 cup onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 11–13 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. While baking, prepare the glaze by whisking confectioner's sugar, milk, and vanilla extract together until smooth. Brush over warm fritters after baking.
